Ploughshares is considered to be one of the top ten literary journals in the country. Guest-edited by prominent writers who examine personal visions, aesthetics, and literary circles, Ploughshares has been frequently cited for its editorial quality and dynamism. The Boston Globe has recognized Ploughshares as the city’s “literary gem,” and the Literary Magazine Review has hailed the journal for publishing “a good deal of what has become our significant contemporary American literature.”

This standard of literary excellence has been most evident in the regular inclusion of work from Ploughshares in a number of prestigious prize annuals, particularly Best American Poetry and Best American Short Stories.

Ploughshares is published in quality paperback with four-color covers three times a year: the Spring issue in April, the Fall issue in August, and the Winter issue in December. Ploughshares has a circulation of 6,000 and is distributed nationally by Ingram Periodicals, Source Interlink, and Ubiquity. The single-copy cost is $14, with one-year subscriptions priced at $30.
