Alan Dugan

Alan Dugan (1923-2003) received two National Book Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for his work. “Priapus” was given out for critique in the summer of 1992 at the Castle Hill workshop Dugan ran from 1976 through 2001. It begins with the same lines as “On a Fallen Statue Forbidden to Women at Pompei” in Poems Seven: New and Complete Poetry (Seven Stories Press, 2002), but is a substantially different poem. Alan Feldman found the poem among the papers his daughter, Rebecca, brought home from the workshop.
