Alexandra Marshall is the author of five novels and a work of nonfiction. Her first short story, “Child Widow,” was published in Ploughshares and included in the list of “100 Distinguished Stories” by Best American Short Stories 2004. Her story “Adopting Sarajevo,” a Ploughshares Solo, was included in the 2016 Solos Omnibus. “The Afterlife of a Suicide” appears in the Winter issue of The American Scholar. That essay and “The Ultimate Alchemy” are drawn from a forthcoming memoir, The Silence of Your Name: The Afterlife of a Suicide, to be published by Arrowsmith Press in fall 2021.
