Charles Bardes is a physician who practices and teaches medicine in New York.  Other poems have appeared in AGNI, while essays, lyric and otherwise, have appeared in AGNI, Literary Imagination, Proto, The New England Journal of Medicine, and elsewhere.  Pale Faces: The Masks of Anemia (Bellevue Literary Press, 2006) is a book-length rumination on the cultural and mythological aspects of this common disease construct.  In 2008 he was the Bernard deVoto Fellow in Nonfiction at Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference.
