James Merrill's contribution is the first chapter of a memoir of the early 1950s. His most recent book of poems is The Inner Room (Knopf, 1989). Jane Miller's Working Time, essays on poetry, culture, and travel, will be out this spring from The University of Michigan's Poets on Poetry Series.
