Maria Venegas was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, and immigrated to the U.S. when she was four years old. She’s currently working on her first book, Bulletproof Vest, which was excerpted in Granta 108 and will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2012. She lives in New York.
