All internships are volunteer positions that require approximately 15 hours per week for one semester. Interns receive credit in the journal’s masthead and a complimentary year's subscription to Ploughshares.
Those wishing to apply for an internship may email a cover letter, résumé, and the completed intern application form (Editorial, Blog, Marketing, Production and Design) to firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition to the application, production internship applicants should provide samples of their design work. Please be sure to include information about relevant software experience in your résumé.
You may submit applications for multiple positions. Every applicant will receive a response to his or her application.
Spring (January-May): October 15
Summer (May-August): February 15
Fall (September-December): June 15
Please note: Ploughshares accepts applications for Spring and Fall internships from Emerson College students only. Summer internships are open to all applicants.
Editorial Intern: The Editorial Intern aids the Editorial Assistants in sorting submissions; updating the log of galleys and literary journals; proofreading new issues; responding to email queries from Ploughshares authors, readers, and subscribers; and performing basic administrative tasks as needed.
Marketing Intern: The Marketing Intern works closely with the Marketing Assistant to maintain social media accounts, help write press releases and create press kits, brainstorm publicity campaigns, keep tabs on Ploughshares' public image, and more.
Blog Intern: The Blog Intern supports the Managing Editor in scheduling and proofreading blog posts and communicating with blog contributors.
Production and Design Intern: The Production Intern collaborates with the Production Manager to design branded materials such as website headers, mail campaigns, and new issue and Solo covers; typeset and format new issues; and perform basic editorial and administrative tasks as needed.
