The 1992 Denise and Mel Cohen Awards
for the outstanding poem, short story, and nonfiction published in Ploughshares Volume 17

Each of these awards carries a prize of $400 and is made possible through the generosity of Denise and Mel Cohen of New Orleans. The Cohen Awards are nominated and judged by the advisory and staff editors of Ploughshares.

Eileen Pollack was born in Liberty, New York. She is a graduate of Yale and the University of Iowa, and currently teaches at Tufts University. Her stories have appeared in The Literary Review, New England Review, Agni, Prairie Schooner, Sojourner, and Playgirl, and have been anthologized in The Pushcart Prize XVI and The New Generation. She is the recipient of a Michener Foundation Fellowship. A collection of her short fiction, The Rabbi in the Attic and Other Stories, was published in October 1991 by Delphinium Books/Simon & Schuster, and she recently completed her first novel, Paradise, New York.
