Fall 2001

Thirtieth Anniversary Issue

The Fall 2001 issue of Ploughshares, guest-edited by Donald Hall. Ploughshares, a journal of new writing, is guest-edited serially by prominent writers who explore different personal visions, aesthetics, and literary circles.

This double issue, guest-edited by poet Donald Hall, marks the 30th anniversary of Ploughshares. In addition to reflections from writers and editors involved with the magazine, the issue contains poetry by modern masters like Wendell Berry, Frank Bidart, Robert Bly, Rita Dove, Jeffrey Harrison, Philip Levine, Sharon Olds, and many others. In the Introduction, after writing about how the "fierce certitude" of youthful taste has left him, Hall writes that "I am delighted that these writers--friends and strangers, some of whom are five decades younger than I am--have allowed me to print their brilliant work."
