Louisa Solano, Grolier Poetry Bookshop Salute

by

Louisa Solano  We want to salute Louisa Solano, who is celebrating her twentieth year as the owner of the Grolier Poetry Book Shop in Harvard Square. Throughout that time, Solano has been an invaluable and supportive resource for poets and poetry readers alike, holding book signings, running a reading series, and administering the Grolier Poetry Prize. The Grolier, of course, has become an institution in itself. The small, one-room shop is the
only all-poetry bookstore in North America. Too often, when people speak of contributions to the country's literary heritage, they point only to writers, critics, and publishers. But Louisa Solano, as a bookseller, has been singularly generous and influential in her quest to sustain the importance of poetry.

The Grolier Poetry Book Shop is located at 6 Plympton Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. The telephone number is (617) 547-4648. The Grolier also offers mail-order services, which may be retained by dialing (800) 234-poem or by faxing (617) 547-4230.
