Stefanie Marlis grew up near Buffalo, New York but has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1974. Her most recent books is fine. Published in 2000 by Apogee Press of Berkeley, California, fine was nominated for the Bay Area Book Reviewers Award. Marlis has two previous full-length collections: rife, which was published by Sarabande Books in 1998, and Slow Joy, which won the 1989 Brittingham Prize and was published by the University of Wisconsin. Slow Joy was also the 1990 Great Lakes Colleges New Writers Award selection. Stefanie Marlis has received an NEA fellowship and three California prizes: two Marin Arts Council Awards and the Joseph Henry Jackson Award. Her poems have been published in numerous journals, including Arshile, Gettysburg Review, Ploughshares, Volt, and Zyzzyva. For the last ten years, she has been making a living as a freelance copywriter. Marlis lives in San Anselmo, California with her dog Sappho.
