Robert O’Connor was born in New York City and grew up in Eastchester, NY. He is the author of the novel Buffalo Soldiers (Vintage, 1994), which was also made into a movie. He lives in upstate New York and teaches fiction writing at SUNY Oswego. For five years he taught English and writing at a maximum security prison. This first chapter is from a novel about his experiences at the prison.
