Jackie Kay

Jackie Kay was an adopted child of Scottish/Nigerian descent born in 1961 and brought up by white parents in Glasgow, the theme of the title sequence of her first collection, The Adoption Papers (1991). Her other poetry books include Darling: New & Selected Poems (2007) from Bloodaxe, and Fiere (2011) from Picador. She has also published poetry for children, as well as several volumes of award-winning fiction and nonfiction, including the novel Trumpet (Picador, UK, 1998; Pantheon, US, 1999; Vintage, US, 2000), and three short-story collections. She lives in Manchester, and is Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University and Chancellor of the University of Salford.
