Christianne Balk's second book, Desiring Flight, won the 1994 Verna Emery Poetry Award. She has been the recipient of an Ingram Merrill Foundation grant, an Alaska Council on the Arts travel grant, and a degree with honors in biology from Grinnell College. She lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband and daughter.
