Over the years, Ploughshares has often received longer submissions that were impossible to publish in our  issues due to space restrictions. Coupled with reader demand for longer, compelling stories and essays perfect for one sitting, Ploughshares now accepts long prose pieces for our longform issue.

This issue is edited by Ploughshares Editor-in-chief Ladette Randolph and released in October. Each of the nine pieces selected for this fall issue are simultaneously published as individual ebooks, which we call Solos. You can review our previous Solos here.

We accept fiction and nonfiction (longer stories, essays, and novellas) from 7,500-20,000 words in length and consider submissions during our regular reading period, from June 1 and January 15.  To submit to the Ploughshares longform issue, read the guidelines here.
