WELCOME TO
PLOUGHSHARES Ploughshares is published three times a year at Emerson College. Each issue offers almost two hundred pages of great new stories and poems, guest-edited by a prominent writer who explores personal visions, aesthetics, and literary circles. Our website serves as companion to our print journal. We have over 3,500 poems, stories, and articles from our current print issue and our back issue archives that you may read for free. We also have a multitude of Web-only information about our authors. Emerson College, our institutional sponsor, is a premier communications and performing arts college in Boston and hosts one of the best M.F.A. programs in creative writing in the country.
Submission period closed: March 31 was the last day of our current submission period. We will no longer accept submissions until our next reading period begins on August 1 (postmark date). Please read the full guidelines for details.

2007 Zacharis Award
The $1,500 John C. Zacharis First Book Award honors the best debut book by a Ploughshares writer, alternating annually between fiction and poetry. Congratulations to this year's winner, Ander Monson, for his collection of stories, Other Electricities (Sarabande, 2005).

Congratulations to our newest prize anthology winners:
BEST STORIES Allegra Goodman’s “Closely Held,” from the Spring 2007 issue edited by Edward Hirsch, will be included in The Best American Short Stories 2008. The anthology is due out this October from Houghton Mifflin, with Salman Rushdie as the guest editor and Heidi Pitlor as the series editor.
PUSHCARTS Charles Baxter’s story “Ghosts,” from the Spring 2007, and Chris Forhan’s poem “Love, or Something, also from the Spring 2007 issue, have been selected for The Pushcart Prize XXXIII: Best of the Small Presses, which will be published by Bill Henderson’s Pushcart Press this November.
