Austrian poet Georg Trakl, 1887-1914, served during WWI in Galicia as a medical corps lieutenant. After the battle of Grodek, he broke down and was sent to a military hospital at Krakow as a possible schizophrenic. He died there of an overdose of cocaine at the age of 27.
