John McManus spent his childhood in Blount County, Tennessee, and studied English and creative writing at Goucher College and at the University of Exeter in southwest England, graduating in May 1999. Stop Breaking Down, a collection of sixteen stories, will be published by Picador Press in July 2000. Soon thereafter, he will begin graduate studies at Hollins University. He currently lives in Baltimore.
