Nathalie Handal
Nathalie Handal is a poet, playwright, and writer. Her most recent books include Poet in Andalucía (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2012), which Alice Walker praises as "poems of depth and weight and the sorrowing song of longing and resolve"; and Love and Strange Horses (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2010), winner of the Gold Medal Independent Publisher Book Award. The New York Times says it's "a book that trembles with belonging (and longing)." She is a Lannan Foundation Fellow, winner of the Alejo Zuloaga Order in Literature, and Honored Finalist for the Gift of Freedom Award, among other honors. Her book of poetry, The Lives of Rain, was shortlisted for the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize. She is Poetry Books Review Editor for Sable (UK) and Associate Artist for the production company The Kazbah Project. She teaches at Columbia University.
