Laurie Greer's work has appeared in Poetry,The Virginia Quarterly Review, and other literary journals. She won an Academy of American Poets Award in 1994. "Orpheus Crossing" is part of a longer sequence on modern and mythic violence. She lives in Washington, D.C.
